Let’s talk : How to survive a korean horror tale?

Celebrating a specific day of the year is not needed in order t put some dark chilling tales under the spotlight ! You may have noticed that south korean don’t go all crazy over halloween preparations the way westerners do. WHY? Well, every single night, and every single dark hallway is an invitation to this enigmatic dark “maze” of urban legends.

Feeling the chills already? Here is a simple guide on how to survive those scary stories …

ps : I wrote this article just for fun, so don’t take these statements seriously ^^

1. BEWARE OF THE BULLIED HIGH SCHOOLER GHOST !

You have certainly heard of tragic stories about the wandering souls of Bullied mistreated students seeking for revenge. Since korean students tend to spend long hours studying at school (until midnight), you should not be thinking every single corner of the school is a happy safe place to be in ^_^

The key note here is : “If you’re planning to go on nighttime study, NEVER get close to dark abandoned spots !

2. NEVER PICK UP A LADY ON THE HIGHWAY !

The Jayuro ghost

The highway that connects Goyang to Peju is well known for car accidents caused by deep fog.

HOWEVER, there is another dark side of the story. It has been said that a young lady wearing sunglasses is standing on the side of the road. Take a closer look ! She IS NOT wearing glasses ! it’s her GOUGED EYES !!

Unless you have the guts and you feel ready to take the risk, don’t be impressed seeing a beautiful lady on the side of the road ! Just go ahead and DON’T LOOK BACK!

3. NEVER BE THE FIRST TO PRESS THE ELEVATOR BUTTON !

elevator-buttonsHere you are, you’re in front of an elevator, you’re going in and a strange man (the murderer) is getting in with you. You won’t pay much attention to it, but this man is waiting for you to press a button and then he will press the button of the previous floor (right below you)

Once you get on that floor, the murderer will go out and, as the doors are nearly close (feeling happy? relieved? this is not your happy day! ) that man will show his true colors. With a knife in his hands, he whispers ” You’re going to be killed on the next floor”. Helpless, you can do nothing but face your horrific fate!! he is waiting for you !

How to survive? NEVER press an elevator button first! what’s even better, why don’t you simply stop being lazy and TAKE THE STAIRS INSTEAD?

4. YOU WANT TO TRY A SQUAT TOILET ? THINK AGAIN !

toilet ghostIt is said that squat toilets are haunted by a ghost. It appears by sticking its hands out of the bowl while you are squatting to ask you to choose between two toilet papers : Red or Blue.

You want to try your luck? If you choose the red one, you will be cut open and become a bloody mess. Let’s say you changed your mind and picked the blue one, here again, you will be suffocated until your body turns blue.

Surviving tip : WHY would you choose a squat toilet in the first place? go for the safer option!!

5. YOU BETTER RUN ! (you devil run, run run run -SNSD ^^)

From the japanese adaptation : Kuchisake Onna

The red mask girl (Korean version of the japanese Kuchisake-Onna); due to an unsuccessful plastic surgery, she went insane. She wanders in the streets and ask men if she’s pretty.

You answer NO, she pulls a surgical scalpel and cuts your mouth just like hers.

If you say YES, you won’t be safe either; she’ll call you a liar and cuts your throat open.

Answering MAYBE will buy you some time to use your legs and run away !!

Surviving tip : RUN AWAY! run as fast as you can!!

All this is, of course, just a funny way to tell these stories (sort of :D). I enjoy watching and reading about asian urban legends in general. What about you? Do you like horror movies and scary legends?

WATCH OUT ! someone is BEHIND YOU !!!
